Haidee Cooke is a visionary artist. Her work encompasses large acrylic paintings on canvas and silk as well as stone etchings on marble, slate and travertine. She has been commissioned to do work throughout the United States, Europe and most extensively, India.
For over 30 years, through a passionate exploration of natural forms and energies, she has developed the core of her expression. This expression is grounded in the basic life force that underlies all matter. Patterns in endless motion, marvelous, serpentine and strong. Organic energy that spirals and undulates. Haidee’s work is a Dance of Light. Wherever she is, she always has a painting laid out on the floor. She’s often asked how she creates symmetry in her work. Once, she was being interviewed for a magazine article. “Aha,” the interviewer said. “That’s how you do it.
Your whole body is actually inside the painting.” She uses the natural sweep of her arm and the reach and stretch of her torso like a compass. Also, she doesn’t see her work before she paints. The invisible, vast energy descends into form on it’s own momentum. In order to see it, she must paint it.
“I grew up having a very dreamy life. My early experiences growing up in the tropics was one of the ocean, the indescribable splendor of the warm breeze and being surrounded by flowers. One of my earliest memories was of roaming and visiting flowers. Each flower’s essence captured me in it’s own unique daydream.
I do believe that this simple sharing of beauty, feeling and form in such tropical splendor have been the primary influence in my work.At the age of 25, in search of God, I heard the words: “Everything is Energy” and from that moment on my work quickly transitioned from realism into waves of Pink Love.
I was finally feeling a sense of the home I had always longed for. My work became more of an inner experience and fun exploration. Years later, I remember, it was a cold winters night. I was laying down with my eyes open. I’m not one to see visions. At first it seemed nothing out of the ordinary. All of a sudden, a wonderful, warm feeling permeated the room. A tremendous Love stilled me. I felt that the life in me was Pure Golden Love and that the blood running through my veins had become liquid Pink Gold. For me in that moment, Gold was equal to Love and I’ve used gold ever since. The Cosmic Beings I paint are called “The Coconut Man” - Mankind in complete surrendrance to the Will of the Creator, God the Beloved. Golden Waves of Love bring about a transformation so complete, it births a new creation, a New Humanity. As we speak, luminous waves are creating new spirals of happiness, harmony and creativity so that the universe can vibrate in spiritual unity as wisdom comes to reign. In this New Humanity, Brotherhood will become a practical reality. Humanity will be one family. The New Humanity is what is being awakened in us. What we are becoming. I’ve been in search of the untouched clear spirit that will usher in this New Humanity “the Golden Thread” that unites us all. My work is clearly that, unveiling the Treasure, our Opalescent Oneness”.
